Old School

July 7th, 2009

Do you remember the days when our websites were just endless lists about things that didn’t mean anything?

Well, ours was I don’t know about yours. It was easy, it was simple, it was just plain fucking lazy let’s face it but every so often it doesn’t hurt to re-vist them for tear-stained nostalgia. So to honour another year of da beans’ existence let me present, in no particular order, the top five weird names from the Metro map I saw before going out tonight.

Drum roll please!

  1. Lamesley
  2. Kibblesworth (good name for a dog)
  3. Biddick (juvenile but funny)
  4. Wideopen (again, very juvenile)
  5. Witherwack (my personal favourite)

See? Don’t you wish we could all do lists and be happy?

From the Greater London tube and rail map:

    5. Strawberry Hill
    4. Elephant and Castle
    3. Totteridge and Whetstone (awfully posh)
    2. Mudchute
    1. Tooting

I’ll never get number four. I didn’t see any elephants and the castles were more like ancient stone architecture with turrets.

    I do however like Mudchute.

One day we will go to Mudchute and you’ll see that it is in no way interesting.

There is a model of an elephant with a castle on its back, but you didn’t see that while you were passing through.

No. Probably because I was hating London too much at the time and its lack of toilets and Northerners and everything

Also because it’s not visible from the train.

There is that. I hate the lack of visibility. It’s not the kind of apples I’d play as the soundtrack to my life.

Would you like to toot in Tooting some day?

Can I choose my own tooter? It would have to have two turntables and a lady bus on it to satisfy my appetite for tooting.

You can and it shall. Yep.

Then one of these days I will be tooting in Tooting. Then perhaps
in Elephant and Castle I will… erm, elephant on a castle?

I’m sure it could be arranged for you to shoot some mud in Mudchute.

Yeah! And then maybe I should cough up a castle on an elephant, castle on with an elephant, go for an elephant on a castle.
