Avatar Unconfirmed individual on nondescript greeting card

I like making cards. Making cards is fairly easy and fun providing you know what to draw or write on the front. If you don’t then it’s a painful and frustrating experience. Thankfully, most of the time I know what I’m doing, which makes a change (ba dum chish!)

It was recently my sisters’ birthday. Sisters plural, as in they both had their birthdays, in that despite being three years between them their birthday is on the same day. Which is weird. I decided to crack off a couple of cards in my usual manner.

Now I know what you’re thinking. This card seems like it was destined to be for one particular sister, but you would be wrong. Without looking in the top-right corner that is.

This card was for Sarah and despite the uncanny resemblance to a certain intepretation of a Christian deity that is not a drawing of Jesus Christ.

I now open up the floor to see if anyone can guess who it is supposed to be.

No clues now.

  • I’m pretty sure it’s Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen during his bearded phase.

(While I liked seeing a large amount of sofa in this picture, I have edited it out for you so that we don’t have to enjoy it every time we open The Beans.)

  • So close with Mr Wilmot there Smidge but, I have to hand it to you, Chris has guessed correctly.

That is Ulysses from the classic science fiction cartoon series ‘Ulysses 31’ which updated the classic tale and stuck it in space with lots of shiny 80’s graphics.

  • YES! I claim First Prize and, hopefully, some sort of certificate.

I’m not sure anything about Ulysses 31 was shiny, but it was at least twice as 80s as was strictly necessary.

  • It had more 80’s than was actually required at the time. In some cases, and some countries, it had too much and was outlawed.

It wasn’t quite as 80’s as anything by Wang Chung however 99% of people agree that is a good thing.

  • Wank Chunk went too far in all categories, not just in eightiesness. It is for that reason that they were decked and spurned by royal decree in the year of our lord 1997.

  • Have they been banned from the UK? I’ve never heard them on the radio and I’ve lived here so many years.

  • Today I had a daydream that I was given a graveyard shift on a radio station and I spent twenty minutes slagging them off. It was a good use of my time and energy.

  • That’s a great daydream. You should be proud of yourself. I am going to write you a letter of congratulation.

  • And I will accept that letter of congratulation along with the cheque for fifty pounds that will accompany it.

Thank you and, more importantly, you’re welcome.
