Avatar Episode 14: Animal Augmentation

I have to admit this ones a weird one. Usually I give some bullet points of whats going on in the episode but to do that would spoil this one, so you’ll just have to go into it blind.

Good luck.

If you are affected by any of the themes in today’s podcast,… erm… oops.

  • I’ve now listened to this. It’s a podcast of two parts. It’s amusing but fairly pedestrian until Ian gets involved, at which point… everything changes.

  • I listened to this when I was recovering from a hangover on Sunday afternoon and it tickled my chops. Everything can be improved with fists.

Also, the countrywide will be very different after we’ve had our wicked way.

  • The country will indeed become very wide. Probably squished flat due to all the fisting it’ll get.

  • I’d like to see what else the birds can do with their wing fingers, if they can be persuaded to stop shooting long enough.

  • We need the countrywide because if it became the countrythin the animals wouldn’t have anywhere to live, and where would all the fists go?

    Also, feathery owl fingers.

  • What I enjoy most about this podcast is the thing I experienced full strength in this episode, which is that I have literally no memory of any part of it.

  • I only remembered it after I heard it. Until then I was just as lost as you.

You know what brought it back though? Fists. As soon as I heard mention of the word ‘fists’ it all came flooding back.

  • Fists are a good reminder. If I’m ever at work and someone has forgotten to do something, I hit them. That’s how you know it works.

  • The only way to remember things is by remembering them or getting hit by fists. I don’t know how anyone else does it.

  • They do it exactly like that, or they don’t remember anything. There’s no other way. It’s like Gandhi said: peace is forgetfulness.

  • “There’s no other way.
    There’s no other way.
All that you can do is… hit them to stop forgetting things.”

Blur knew what they were talking about.

  • They certainly did. A lot of their songs were on that theme, which is good because it’ll give us a really easy theme for the next few comments. Like the one that went:
“I met him in a crowded room
Where people go to drink away their gloom
He sat me down and so began
Hitting him with my fists to make him remember things”

  • Or the classic:

“(Woohoo!) When I feel heavy metal
(Woohoo!) And I’m pins and I’m needles
(Woohoo!) Well, I lie and I’m easy
All of the time but I’m never sure why I need you
To keep hitting me with fists until I remember”

  • What about the one that went:

    “Girls who are boys
Who like boys to be girls
Who do boys like they’re girls
Who do girls like they’re boys
Always should be someone who hits you with fists when you forget things”

  • Now that you mention it, there was also:

“Confidence is the preference of the habitual voyeur of what is known as…

    FIST LIFE!”

  • Unless I’m misremembering it, there was another one too:

“Come on, come on, come on
    Get through it
Come on, come on, come on
    Love’s the greatest thing
Come on, come on, come on
    Get through it
Come on, come on, come on
    Love’s the greatest thing
    That we have
    I’m waiting for that feeling
    I’m waiting for that feeling
Waiting for that feeling of being hit with fists to make me remember things”
