Ey up Beans fans, we’re back again, right on time, like Black Box but spelled right. This time Chris asks us about the most depressing foods we’ve eaten, we discuss…
- Generic Fried Chicken
- Headrow Shopping Centre Food Court Pies
- Not Roast Potatoes
- Bad Burgers

It goes without saying that I haven’t listened to this yet, but I might listen to it on the way home tonight.
Strange. I recently referenced the Headrow shopping centre food court pies. Perhaps this is a core memory of Chris for me.
Was it in an academic paper on the effects of poor quality pies on core memories?
I expect it’s one of the key formative moments in Ian’s life, around which much of his personality now revolves. It certainly felt that way when we were eating our very cheap and fairly terrible food.
I knew back then that I’d remember that tragic food court with its overpriced monstrosities for the rest of my life. Brings a tear to me eye so it does.
Is this the same core memory that gave you the unshakeable belief that anywhere calling itself a “centre” will have a food court and toilets?
I don’t think I’m asking too much for a uniform descriptive term that encapsulates my love of shopping, defecating and gorging.
That’s fair. You do love those things.
I am all about those things. If I could somehow get paid for doing all those things then life would officially be going bells.
