Walking through London recently, I came across what would otherwise be just another shop selling tacky shite to tourists.
I nearly ignored it completely until I noticed the act of public service they were performing. The whole of the shop window was not being used to sell their tasteless wares. Instead, it had been given over entirely to display a deeply moving tribute, providing a focus for the grief and gratitude of all those passing by.
In the window was this.

Yes. It’s Queen Elizabeth II, with Marilyn Monroe’s hair.
Just how we all remember her.

That looks like the Queen during some kind of midlife crisis they kept hidden from the paparazzi.
Do you remember when the Queen dyed her hair, lived on shots and did karaoke every weekend?
Her signature song was Heartbreaker by Pat Benetar.
I don’t remember, but that’s exactly what MI5 wanted. How come you remember?
I remember because I chose to. Everyone else was too busy, I don’t know, crying because we handed Hong Kong back to China.
That’s how they do it. If the reigning monarch is having a mid-life crisis, hand a colony back to another country and nobody will notice them driving an open-top sports car, buying a leather jacket and throwing up outside a nightclub.
I would have taken a much more thrifty approach to the problem. Hand out a couple of Easter eggs at an old people’s home maybe. That’ll turn some heads.
