My life is, it goes without saying, extremely glamorous and exciting. But one thing that has remained unchanged by the non-stop whirlwind of my existence is my desktop wallpaper at work. I have been looking at the same background for over a decade now, having chosen a picture on 8 October 2011.

Back then I was responding to someone commenting that my desktop was boring. I had no desktop picture at the time, and completing the impression of nihilistic minimalism, the background colour was black. So I changed it completely and went for a white background, on top of which is a picture of some unknown creature announcing that it is FANTASTIC. Now whatever appears on my screen is, by association, fantastic.

Since we are now approaching the twelfth anniversary of this desktop wallpaper being chosen, it felt like a good time to make it available to the wider world.

If you want to go the whole hog, the other thing I have been carrying around on my desktop profile for a decade now is an animated dinosaur cursor, which I use instead of the hourglass when my computer is busy. It was part of Windows 95, I think, but isn’t in current versions of Windows, so I keep my own copy. It’s important. Unfortunately WordPress won’t let me upload a .ani file because it might contain terrorism, or something, but you can get it here.

Before you ask, no, I am not going to change my wallpaper any time soon. I like what I’ve got. You should have it too. It’s fantastic.
